Day 3: powder

2 February, 2009

We spent the morning exploring more blue runs, then joined Katie and a few other boarders for the afternoon’s lesson.

Our instructor was a Frenchwoman with crazy hair called Sylvie. She taught us some better turning techniques, then took us off-piste into the powder.

When it’s going well, the board glides almost silently over the fresh snow and it’s hard to believe that this could possibly be working.

When it goes wrong, you fall into several feet of snow and can’t get up again. At first this is very funny. Amusement turns to frustration and then despair as you try various techniques for getting out again, none of which work.

That evening I was so tired I could barely lift my drink. It’s a tough life…
