Watch out, she’s got a screwdriver

8 March, 2009

Seamy, in a fit of spring cleaning, unearthed his old record-and-8-track-player and wondered if it could be made to work.

I am unable to leave that question unanswered. The answer is ‘sort of’; a little TLC* goes a long way, but it has illnesses beyond my capability to heal. Still, we now have the warm crackly vinyl sounds of James Brown and Thin Lizzie (the 8-track capability remains untested because the Beach Boys are lost somewhere under a heap of kipple).

The thing fascinates me. It’s so simple! It even works without electricity! How is this possible?

* the usual: if it’s disconnected, solder it, if it’s stuck, WD40 it, if it’s fragile, ducttape it, if in doubt, Google it, and if it’s a pen, old 5p coin, bus ticket circa 1970, block of paint, nail, receipt or button, remove it and make ‘eeeww’ noises ๐Ÿ™‚
